Weirdest Phobias

I am fond of discovering weird things and articles around the cyberspace. One of my favorite topic is "phobia". Well it is not because I have a lot of phobia but I like to be informed about these things, about how people get this or how they feel when they get scared of a specific thing. So here's some that I want to share:

Scopophobia: irrational fear of being looked at, seen or stared at

Scopophobics avoid large public places. They can't stand people in shopping malls, public transportation, market place or even people they see at their rear-view mirrors. Symptoms typically include extreme anxiety, dread and anything associated with panic such as shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, nausea, inability to articulate words or sentences, dry mouth and shaking. 

Arachibutyrophobia: fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth

Arachi, a glutinous oil ingredient is said to be present in butter and nuts. It feels very annoying when the butter gets stuck to the upper part of the mouth and you are unable to pull it out in the public crowd. Aside from embarrassment, symptoms are shaking, feeling of nausea and sickness, sweating, dizziness, heart palpitation, inability to speak and work properly, feelings of nausea and anxiety attacks.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia: fear of long words

Well, just reading and memorizing this fear would be a lot harder for Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobics. Symptoms are panic, dread, terror, trembling anxiety and shortness of breath. Yes, shortness of breath.

Pteronophobia: fear of being tickled by feathers

WOW! I have a classmate who have this. He will totally freak out if he saw a feather or even cute little chickens. There's not enough information about these on the net so if you have something to share about this, you could leave a comment so people may be aware about this.

Venustraphobia: fear of beautiful women.

Ouch! This is too much of a phobia. This fear can have an enormous effect on a man’s ability to approach women, much more to secure a woman who he is truly and completely physically attracted to.
